Georgia Tourist Visa for Indians: Eligibility, Documents & Processing Time

Your passport can be perfectly valid and still fail this application.

Georgia asks three separate things of it at least three months of validity beyond your visa's expiry, two blank pages, and issue within the last ten years. That third condition is the one nobody checks, and it quietly disqualifies passports that look fine on the front page.

It's a small example of a bigger pattern. Georgia's tourist visa isn't difficult to get, but it is precise about what it wants. Here's the full picture who qualifies, what your file needs to contain, and how long it actually takes.

Who is eligible

Indian passport holders, with one important alternative

Indian citizens need a visa for Georgia. There is no visa on arrival, and no exception for short trips.

But there is a route around the application entirely. If you hold a valid, unexpired visa or residence permit from the United States, the United Kingdom, any of the 29 Schengen states, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Israel, the UAE, or the Gulf states including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain, you can enter without an e-visa.

That route also gives you more time up to 90 days within any 180-day period, against the 30 days the e-visa permits. Check this before you apply, particularly if you live or work in the Gulf.

The passport conditions in full

•  Valid for at least three months beyond the visa's expiry date.

•  At least two blank pages.

•  Issued within the last ten years.

All three, not any one of them. A ten-year-old passport with a year of validity left satisfies the first condition and fails the third.

The documents you need

The list is short. The specifications are where applications come apart.

• Passport scan. Both sides, combined into a single PDF. Separate files are a common reason for a return.

• Digital photograph. Passport format, sized to the portal's specification of 472 by 591 pixels. A phone photo cropped by eye will not pass.

• Travel insurance. Mandatory since January 2026, covered below.

• Payment card. Visa or Mastercard, used at the point of submission.

The insurance requirement, which is new

From 1 January 2026, travel health insurance became compulsory for tourists entering Georgia. Anyone who planned a trip using last year's information will miss this.

What the policy has to do:

• Provide minimum coverage of 30,000 GEL, roughly USD 11,000.

• Cover your entire stay, including both your entry and your exit date.

• Come from a Georgian or foreign insurer, so an Indian policy qualifies if the terms match.

• Be presentable in physical or electronic form, in Georgian or English, showing the coverage dates, the insured risks and the coverage amount.

Diplomatic staff, international organisation personnel and commercial drivers are exempt. Every other visitor needs it.

A policy that ends the day before your return flight fails on duration, which is the detail most travellers get wrong.

How long it takes

Standard processing

Five to seven working days from submission, assuming your file is complete and nothing needs clarifying.

Peak season is different

Between June and August, allow two weeks. Georgia's summer draws heavy volume and the queue lengthens accordingly. An application filed ten days before a July departure is an application at risk.

The 120-day window people misread

This causes more confusion than the processing time itself.

Approval gives you a visa valid for 120 days, and a permitted stay of up to 30 days. Those are two different numbers doing two different jobs. The 120 days is the window in which you must use the visa. The 30 days is how long you can remain once you've entered.

So an approval in March doesn't give you four months in Georgia. It gives you until roughly July to take a trip of up to a month.

What delays or refuses an application

• Name spellings that differ between the form and the passport.

• Photographs that don't meet the pixel specification.

• Passport scans uploaded as multiple files.

• A passport failing any of the three conditions, most often the ten-year issue rule.

•  Insurance that covers the trip but not the full entry-to-exit period.

•  Applying in peak season without allowing for the longer queue.

None of these are judgements about you as a traveller. They're formatting and timing failures, which is what makes them worth catching in advance.
