How to Apply for a Georgia Visa from India: Step-by-Step Guide

Before you start the application, check one thing. You may not need it.

If you already hold a valid visa or residence permit from the US, the UK, a Schengen country, the UAE, Canada, Australia, Japan or several other states, you can enter Georgia without an e-visa at all. And the stay you get is 90 days within 180, rather than the 30 days an e-visa allows.

Three times the stay, for paperwork you already own. Plenty of Indians working in Dubai qualify without knowing it.

If you don't hold one of those, here's exactly how the e-visa works.

First do you qualify to skip it?

Indian citizens holding an unexpired visa or residence permit from any of the following can enter without applying the United States, the United Kingdom, all 29 Schengen states, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Israel, the UAE, and the Gulf states including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.

Two conditions matter. The document must be valid, not expired, and you should carry it with you. Border officers check the original.

One more thing to be clear about there is no visa on arrival for Indian passport holders. It's the e-visa or a qualifying third-country document. Nothing else.

Applying for the e-visa, step by step

Step 1: Get your documents ready

Gather these before you open the portal, because the form times out:

• Your passport, valid for at least three months beyond the visa's expiry, with two blank pages, and issued within the last ten years.

• A scanned copy of your passport pages, combined into a single PDF.

• A digital passport-format photograph, sized to the portal's specification of 472 by 591 pixels.

• Travel insurance meeting the new 2026 requirement, covered below.

• A Visa or Mastercard for payment.

Step 2: Apply online

Applications go through Georgia's official e-visa portal. Fill in your personal, passport and travel details exactly as they appear in your passport, then upload your documents in the formats the portal specifies.

Name spellings that don't match your passport are one of the most common reasons an application is delayed or refused, so copy character for character rather than typing from memory.

Step 3: Pay

Payment is made online by card at the point of submission. Keep the receipt and the reference number.

Step 4: Receive and carry it

Approval arrives by email. Print a copy and keep another on your phone. Georgian border officers will ask to see it alongside your passport and insurance.

What it costs

The published consular fee is USD 20, with a 2% service charge applied. A separate identity verification fee of USD 15 also applies, which brings the realistic total to around USD 35 before your bank's own charges on a foreign transaction.

Budget the card conversion cost too. It's small, but it's the difference between the figure you read and the figure that appears on your statement.

How long it takes

Standard processing runs five to seven working days.

Between June and August, allow two weeks. Georgia's summer season puts real pressure on the queue, and an application filed a week before departure in July is an application that may not arrive in time.

The insurance rule that changed in 2026

This is new, and it catches travellers who researched their trip last year.

Since 1 January 2026, travel health insurance is mandatory for tourists entering Georgia. The requirements:

• Minimum coverage of 30,000 GEL, roughly USD 11,000.

• Valid for your entire stay, including both your entry and exit dates.

•  Issued by a Georgian or foreign insurer, so an Indian policy is acceptable if it meets the terms.

•  Presented in physical or electronic form, in Georgian or English, showing coverage dates, insured risks and the coverage amount.

Diplomatic staff, international organisation personnel and commercial drivers are exempt. Everyone else needs it.

Buy the policy before you apply, not after. It's part of your document set, and a policy that ends the day before your return flight fails the requirement.
