Georgia Visa for Indians: Eligibility, Documents, Fees and the Full Application Process

Planning a trip to Georgia from India? Georgia has become an increasingly popular destination for Indian travellers, from the historic streets of Tbilisi to the mountains of Kazbegi and the vineyards of Kakheti. The good news is that eligible Indian travellers can apply online for a Georgia e-Visa for short-term visits, without having to visit a Georgian embassy or consular office in person.

Getting the visa, though, is only part of the story. You also need to meet Georgia's entry requirements, which include carrying the right documents and holding mandatory health and accident insurance, effective from January 1, 2026. Here's everything Indian travellers need to know about the Georgia visa process.

Do Indians Need a Visa for Georgia?

Yes. Indian passport holders normally require a visa to visit Georgia unless they qualify for an alternative visa exemption route. For eligible short-term visitors, the Georgia e-Visa is the simplest option. The official e-Visa website lets applicants complete the whole procedure online, pay the relevant fee and receive the visa electronically.

The e-Visa is meant for short stays, and the exact validity and permitted duration of stay depend on the applicant's nationality and travel document. The official portal displays the applicable conditions once you select India as your country of citizenship.

Georgia Visa Requirements for Indian Citizens

Before you apply, it pays to get your paperwork in order. Georgia's official e-Visa portal currently lists the following documents for the application.

1. Valid Indian Passport

Your passport must:

Be issued within the last 10 years

Contain at least two blank pages

Not be damaged or contain unofficial markings

Be valid for at least three months after the expiry of the requested Georgian visa

The passport scan should be uploaded as one PDF where the application portal asks for it.

2. Recent Photograph

You need a recent photograph that shows how you currently look. The official portal says the photograph should have been taken no more than six months before you submit the application. The applicant should face the camera directly; profile photographs are not accepted.

3. Proof of Accommodation

You may need to provide evidence of where you will stay in Georgia. This can include:

     Hotel reservation

     Rental agreement

     Other acceptable accommodation documentation

The accommodation proof should cover the period of your stay.

4. Return or Round Trip Flight Reservation

Georgia's official e-Visa document checklist includes a round-trip flight reservation. It's best to make sure that the travel dates you put forward are the same across your flight booking, your accommodation and your visa application.

5. Travel Health and Accident Insurance

This one matters especially for travellers in 2026. Starting from January 1, 2026, tourists entering Georgia must have valid health and accident insurance. The policy must be valid for the entire period of the stay and include the arrival and departure dates.

The minimum required coverage is GEL 30,000. The policy can be issued by a Georgian or a foreign insurance company and must be available in Georgian or English. Travellers may be asked to present it at the border.

6. Proof of Financial Means

Applicants may need to demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to cover their trip and stay in Georgia. The official Georgian e-Visa FAQ lists examples such as:

     Bank statements

Employer reference showing position and income

     Proof of real estate

     Sponsorship letter, where applicable

A sponsorship letter should include details such as the sponsor's name, contact information, relationship with the applicant, destination, duration of stay and expenses being covered.

7. Proof of Purpose of Travel

You may also need to demonstrate why you are travelling to Georgia. Depending on your circumstances, this can include documents such as an invitation, an organisational or institutional letter, or another document supporting the stated purpose of the visit.

Georgia Visa Fees for Indians

The official Georgia e-Visa FAQ currently lists the visa fee as USD 20 + 2% service fee per application.

There is also an important 2026 update. After completing the Georgian e-Visa application and paying the consular fee, applicants are required to complete a DuVerify application within 24 hours. The official e-Visa portal states that an additional USD 15 per applicant applies for this step.

So the amount you should budget for is:

USD 20 + 2% service fee + USD 15 DuVerify fee

The final amount charged can vary slightly because of payment processing and currency conversion by your card issuer. Visa fees are non-refundable, including where an application is refused or the visa is not used.

How to Apply for a Georgia Visa from India

The application is completed online through Georgia's official e-Visa portal.

Step 1: Open the Official Georgia e-Visa Portal

Start your application through the official Georgia e-Visa portal rather than an unofficial visa-agent website. The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs specifically warns that it is not affiliated with private companies offering e-Visa submission services.

Step 2: Select India as Your Citizenship

Enter your citizenship and travel-document information exactly as shown on your Indian passport. If you hold dual citizenship, use the passport you intend to use for travelling to Georgia.

Step 3: Fill in Your Travel Details

Include details such as:

     Purpose of travel

     Planned travel dates

     Accommodation

     Passport details

     Personal details

     Travel details

The application form must be filled in English.

Step 4: Upload Your Documents

Upload the documents requested by the portal, including your passport, photo, accommodation details, flight reservation, insurance and financial documents. Make sure that names, passport numbers and dates correspond across all documents. Incorrect information can invalidate the e-Visa and could lead to refusal of entry at the border.

Step 5: Confirm Your Email and Pay the Visa Fee

Once you have confirmed your email, proceed to payment with an accepted Visa or MasterCard. The official FAQ states that payment must be made in the specified payment window after notification, or the application may be cancelled.

Step 6: Complete DuVerify

After completing the first e-Visa stage, follow the DuVerify instructions sent to your email. The current official portal states that this second step is obligatory and must be completed within 24 hours, with an additional USD 15 fee per applicant.

Step 7: Wait for the Decision

Georgia's official FAQ states that a decision on an e-Visa application takes at least five working days. It is therefore better not to leave your visa application until the last few days before your flight.

Step 8: Print Your e-Visa

If your application is approved, the e-Visa is sent electronically. Download and print it, and carry it with you when travelling. Georgia's official portal also advises travellers to carry the supporting documents used for their trip, because these may be requested at the border.

What Indian Travellers Should Carry at the Georgian Border

Having an approved visa does not necessarily mean you can ignore the other entry requirements. At the border, you should be prepared to show:

     Your passport

     Georgian e-Visa

     Proof of accommodation

     Proof of purpose of travel

     Evidence of sufficient financial means

     Valid health and accident insurance

The Georgian authorities state that the information provided in the visa application can be checked at the border, and incorrect information can result in the e-Visa being considered invalid and entry being refused.

How Long Does a Georgia e-Visa Take?

The official e-Visa FAQ says that it takes not less than five working days for a decision. Because processing can take longer depending on individual circumstances, Indian travellers should apply well before their planned departure date rather than relying on last-minute processing.

Important Tips Before Applying for a Georgia Visa

Keep Your Documents Consistent

Your passport, flight reservation, hotel booking, insurance and application should tell the same story. Differences in dates or personal details can create unnecessary questions.

Don't Forget the 2026 Insurance Rule

Travel insurance is no longer something you should treat as optional for a tourist trip to Georgia. From January 1, 2026, valid health and accident insurance with minimum coverage of GEL 30,000 is required.

Apply Only Through the Official Portal

Use the Georgian government's official e-Visa platform, and be cautious about websites that charge additional service fees while presenting themselves as official.

Check Your Email Regularly

The application involves email verification and, under the current process, a separate DuVerify step. Missing the required verification or payment windows can result in cancellation of the application.

Final Word

For Indian travellers, applying for a Georgia tourist visa can be relatively straightforward, because the short-stay e-Visa process is online. The key is preparation: keep your passport valid, organise your accommodation and flight documents, demonstrate adequate funds, arrange compliant insurance and carefully complete every stage of the online application.

Most importantly, check the official Georgian e-Visa portal immediately before applying, as eligibility, fees and entry requirements can change.
