What the authorities officially quote?

Two bodies issue this visa, and both publish a processing time on their service pages.

 

Digital channels run around the clock, so a submission at 11pm on a Thursday enters the queue the same as one filed on a Monday morning. Customer centres keep standard hours.

Reporting on the visa has put the practical range slightly wider, at roughly two working days expected and up to five at the outside. That's the number worth planning against, not the headline 48 hours.

Why some applications take much longer

Processing time isn't really a single number. It's two different journeys, and which one you take is decided before you press submit.

The returns loop

If something in your file is missing or unclear, the application isn't rejected. It's returned to you for correction, and that's where the delays live.

Two rules govern what happens next:

• You have 30 days from the return date to complete the missing information. Miss that window       and the application is automatically rejected.

• If the file is returned three times for incomplete information or documents, it is rejected outright.

Neither rule is about whether you deserve the visa. Both are about paperwork discipline. An application that goes back and forth twice has already burned two weeks and two of its three lives.

What usually triggers a return?

The same handful of things, over and over:

• A bank statement that doesn't clearly show the USD 4,000 balance held across the full six months.

• Scans that are cropped, blurry or missing a page.

• A name spelled differently on the form than in the passport.

• Statements that aren't bank-stamped, digitally verified, or in English.

• A passport with under six months of validity left.

The clock that starts after approval

Fast approval creates a problem people don't anticipate.

Once the permit is issued it's valid for 60 days, and you must enter the UAE within that window or it's cancelled. Apply in January for a trip you're planning in May and a 48-hour approval works against you. The permit expires before you use it.

Which means the right time to apply isn't as early as possible. It's two to three weeks before you travel, close enough to leave buffer for a return, far enough that the 60-day window comfortably covers your departure.

How long an extension takes?

Different process, different timeline.

Extending your stay from inside the UAE takes one to five business days. Because fines start the day after your permission expires, with no grace period, the standard advice is to file five to seven days before your current stay runs out.

Waiting until the last afternoon means the processing time and the AED 50 daily fine overlap, which is an avoidable way to lose money.

Working backwards from your travel date

A simple schedule that keeps you out of trouble:

• Three weeks before departure: check your passport expiry and pull your six-month bank     statement.

• Two to three weeks before: submit the application.

• Two to five working days later: approval lands by email.

• Immediately: save the e-visa to your phone and print a copy.

• Within 60 days of issuance: travel.
