Lost Your Passport in South Korea? Here’s What To Do

Losing your passport in a foreign country can feel overwhelming, but with the right steps, you can resolve the situation smoothly. South Korea’s efficient systems and the Indian Consular Application Centre in Seoul are there to help you.

Step-by-Step Guide if You Lose Your Passport

1. Stay Calm and Search Thoroughly

Carefully check all your belongings and retrace your steps. Sometimes, passports are found at hotels, tourist sites, or in public transport lost-and-found offices.

2. File a Police Report

Visit the nearest police station and report your lost passport. You’ll receive a “Lost Item Report,” which is essential for your application for a replacement travel document.

3. Check South Korea’s LOST112 Service

Use the LOST112 website or ask the police to check for you. If your passport is found, it may be held at a local police station or the Korean National Police Agency.

4. Contact the Indian Consular Application Centre in Seoul along with the documents needed for reissue of lost passport

With your police report in hand, contact the Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) to apply for a new passport. You will need:

  • The police report

  • Photocopies of your lost passport (if available)

  • Passport-sized photographs (white background)

  • An affidavit explaining the loss

You will also need the below documents:

Documents Checklist

  • Police report in case of a lost passport.

  • Details or photocopy of the lost passport, if available.

  • A written letter explaining the circumstances under which the passport was lost or damaged.

  • Photocopy of the visa page showing the date of entry into South Korea.

  • Two recent passport-size photographs (2 x 2 inches) with a light-colored background.

  • Printout of the application form submitted online.

  • Duly completed Personal Particulars Form (Form No. 2).

  • Duly filled Annexure-D, signed by both parents (if applying for a minor).

  • Photocopies of any two identity/address proof documents along with originals for verification (e.g., Driving License, PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Ration Card, Electricity Bill, etc.).

5. Book Your Appointment

Appointments are generally required. Bring all necessary documents, including originals and copies, passport photos, and the police report. Fees are payable in Korean Won or US Dollars; check the latest rates on the official website.

6. Reapply for Your Visa (If needed)

If your visa was lost, you must apply for a new one through South Korean immigration or the embassy of your next destination. Bring your police report, new travel document, and any copies of your old visa

7. Inform Your Airline and Insurance Provider

Notify your airline, which may waive change or cancellation fees. If you have travel insurance, you can claim expenses for lost documents and related costs. Keep your police report and all receipts for your claim.
