Saudi Arabia Visa Guide: Tourist, Umrah & Business

For decades, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) was one of the most difficult countries to visit. Entry was restricted primarily to religious pilgrims and sponsored business travelers. Tourism, as the world knew it, was virtually non-existent.

That has changed dramatically. Under Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia has opened its doors to the world. The ancient sites of AlUla, the Red Sea resorts, and the bustling metropolis of Riyadh are now accessible via a streamlined visa system.

However, the speed of change has created confusion. With multiple visa categories –Tourist, Umrah, Business, and Stopover – travelers often struggle to identify the right entry permit. Applying for the wrong category can lead to deportation or heavy fines.

At DU Global, we navigate these shifting sands for you. This guide clarifies the new Saudi visa landscape, ensuring your entry into the Kingdom is as majestic as the destination itself.

Start Application

The Tourist eVisa: A New Era

The Tourist eVisa is the flagship of the new Saudi openness. It is available to citizens of over 60 eligible countries and GCC residents.

Key Features:

  • Validity: One year from the date of issuance.

  • Entry: Multiple entries.

  • Stay: Up to 90 days per visit.

  • Purpose: Tourism, visiting family, events, and yes – Umrah (see below).

The “GCC Resident” Route: If you hold a valid residency in the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, or Qatar, and your profession is on the “approved list” (e.g., engineer, doctor, manager, but usually not laborer/driver), you qualify for the eVisa.

  • DU Global Tip: The “profession” on your residence visa must match the list exactly. If your visa says “Sales Executive” but you select “Manager,” you may be denied boarding.

The Umrah Visa vs. Tourist Visa

This is the most common question we receive: Can I perform Umrah on a Tourist Visa?

The Answer: Yes. Holders of a valid Tourist eVisa can perform Umrah outside of the Hajj season. You do not need a separate religious visa. You simply need to register on the Nusuk app to book your Umrah slot.

When Do You Need a Dedicated Umrah Visa?

  • If you are from a non-eligible country for the eVisa.

  • If you are traveling via a specialized Umrah travel agency package.

  • Crucially: During the Hajj season, neither the Tourist nor Umrah visa allows access to the holy sites. Hajj requires a specific Hajj Visa with its own strict quota system.

The Saudi Business Visa

For corporate travelers, the Tourist Visa is technically not sufficient for commercial activities, although enforcement varies. The Business Visa is the compliant route.

The Sponsor Requirement: Unlike the tourist visa, a Business Visa requires an invitation.

  • The Letter: Your Saudi partner company must issue a “Letter of Invitation” approved by the Saudi Chamber of Commerce.

  • The Process: Once the letter is issued, the visa must often be stamped in your passport by an embassy or processed as an eVisa depending on your nationality.

Commercial vs. Work Visit: Be careful. A Business Visa allows meetings and negotiations. It does not allow you to perform paid work or hands-on technical labor (e.g., fixing a machine). For hands-on work, a “Work Visit Visa” or “Temporary Work Visa” is required.

The Stopover Visa (Transit)

Saudi airlines (Saudia and Flynas) now offer a 96-hour Stopover Visa.

  • Best For: Travelers flying from Europe to Asia via Jeddah or Riyadh.

  • Benefit: It includes a free one-night hotel stay (with Saudia bookings) and allows you to perform a quick Umrah or visit AlUla.

  • Condition: It must be booked at the time of flight booking. You cannot add it easily later.

Compliance and Culture

Visiting KSA requires cultural awareness.

  • Dress Code: While the abaya is no longer mandatory for foreign women, modest dress (covering shoulders and knees) is expected in public.

  • Alcohol: Strictly prohibited. Do not attempt to bring alcohol into the country. It is a serious criminal offense.

  • Photography: Avoid taking photos of government buildings or local people without permission.

Why Choose DU Global for Saudi Visas?

The Saudi system is fully digital, but it is prone to glitches.

  • Payment Failures: International cards often get rejected on the portal.

  • Image Rejection: The photo requirements are strict (white background, high resolution). We edit your photos to ensure acceptance.

The Kingdom is welcoming the world. Let us handle the formalities so you can experience the hospitality.
